Building the Future of Digital Education – European Digital Education Hub

Digital education is evolving rapidly, and the European Digital Education Hub (EDEH or Hub) is at the forefront of this transformation. As part of the European Union’s Digital Education Action Plan and funded through Erasmus+, the Hub is a collaborative online community of practice that connects professionals across Europe and beyond who are passionate about shaping the future of education.

Since its launch in June 2022, the Hub has grown into a thriving network of over 7,000 members. It has hosted more than 70 webinars and workshops, facilitated 31+ squads and community events, and published over 150 resources. The Hub brings together educators, teacher trainers, school representatives, researchers, policymakers, and digital education experts from all education levels and from all over the world aiming to overcome fragmentation and foster innovation in education policy, research, and practice.

Joining the Hub means becoming part of a vibrant and supportive community. Members gain access to mentorship, collaborative opportunities, and the latest insights into digital education. Whether you’re looking to develop new skills, share your ideas, or contribute to meaningful projects, the Hub offers a space to grow and connect.

One of the Hub’s most impactful features is its series of workshops held throughout the year in cities across Europe. These two-day events bring together around 30 participants from diverse backgrounds to explore key topics in digital education, exchange experiences, and co-create practical solutions with experts.

In addition to workshops, the Hub organizes short-term working groups known as “squads.” Each squad consists of approximately 20 members and is led by a topic expert. Squads meet regularly online via Microsoft Teams and remain active for up to six months. Their work results in tangible outputs such as policy recommendations, guidelines, learning materials, and courses.

Here is the full list of current squads (August 2025):

  1. Mainstreaming Lessons Learned from COVID-19
  2. Digital Education in Times of Crises
  3. Interoperability
  4. Micro-Credentials
  5. AI in Education
  6. Digital Skills
  7. Sustainability and Digital Education
  8. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  9. Safety and Security
  10. Hybrid Learning Spaces
  11. Immersive Learning
  12. Explainable AI
  13. Wellbeing in Digital Education
  14. Futuring

Among these, the AI in Education and Explainable AI squads have produced particularly influential work. Their reports explore the benefits and risks of artificial intelligence in education, emphasizing the importance of human oversight and ethical governance. The Explainable AI report defines key concepts such as transparency, interpretability, and understandability, and outlines the competencies educators need to engage with AI responsibly.

The Hub is also home for expert groups which works on revising guidelines on disinformation and AI ethics updating guidelines documents from 2022. New edition of the Ethical guidelines on the use of AI and data in teaching and learning for educators and Guidelines for teachers and educators on tackling disinformation is expected at the end of this year.

Topics include AI ethics, digital education in early childhood, assessment practices, and diversity and inclusion. Members also receive a monthly newsletter featuring recent developments, highlights from the Reading Corner, and upcoming opportunities to get involved. Read August newsletter.
