We are delighted to announce that our esteemed project partner, Lidija Kralj from Suradnici u učenju, has been selected as a member of the prestigious European Commission Expert Group on High-Quality Informatics. This group, comprised of 25 experts from 14 different countries, is dedicated to addressing and overcoming the critical challenges facing informatics education today.
Addressing Common Challenges in Informatics Education
Since 2014, many European countries have been undertaking reforms to integrate informatics into their educational curricula. Despite these efforts, significant obstacles remain. These include the limited reach of informatics programs to students, difficulties in recruiting and retaining specialized teachers, and the need for innovative assessment methods.
Work Planned and Timeline
The development of these guidelines is part of a broader initiative, aligning with Action 10 of the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027 and the Council Recommendation on the Provision of Digital Skills and Competences in Education and Training, adopted in November 2023. Over the next 13 months, concluding in September 2025, the expert group will:
- Develop a coherent understanding of informatics for both teachers and learners.
- Identify and tackle common challenges in delivering informatics education.
- Provide pedagogical support to teachers and educators in the informatics field.
The expert group held its first meeting on July 11, under the leadership of Georgi Dimitrov, Head of Unit, Digital Education. The session focused on addressing pressing issues related to schools, students, teachers, curricula, and assessment methods.
Meet the Members
The expert group is composed of individuals and organizations that bring extensive expertise in informatics education. Members are categorized as follows:
- Type A Members: Appointed in a personal capacity, these individuals are experts in their field and act independently in the public interest.
- Type B Members: These individuals represent a common interest shared by multiple stakeholders in informatics education, rather than specific entities.
