On May 15, 2024, Algebra University hosted a successful Inter-County Professional Conference for Teachers of Informatics and Computer Science, focusing on “Artificial Intelligence and Education.” This event was organized in collaboration with the Croatian Agency for Education and Training and brought together primary and secondary school teachers to delve into the ever-evolving landscape of digital technology and its profound impact on education and the workforce.
During the conference, experts provided invaluable insights into the development of digital technology and its implications for personal growth among young people, the world of work, and the educational sector. Presentations highlighted research findings on the impact of digital technology on children and youth, offering recommendations for its responsible use. Discussions also centred on the anticipated influence of artificial intelligence and advancements in data science on the job market, emphasizing the comprehensive impact of digitalization on education.
One of the key topics was how digitalization affects education at multiple levels. This includes the necessity of integrating new tools and content into educational programs, the application of digital technologies in the educational process (from teaching to assessing learning outcomes), and the role of digitalization in enhancing the management of educational processes.
Maja Šarić from Algebra University presented the “Digital First” project, which aims to revolutionize computer science education across Europe. The project focuses on addressing the digital divide, privacy concerns, and the need for ethical and social considerations in the curriculum. By creating dynamic learning environments and incorporating advanced technological tools, “Digital First” seeks to prepare students for the demands of the modern workforce, equipping them with the critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
The conference was a pivotal event, providing a platform for educators to learn and share best practices, ensuring that they are well-equipped to educate the next generation of students in a rapidly digitalizing world.
