Shaping the Future of Informatics: DIGITAL FIRST Meets in Ljubljana

From January 21st to 22nd, 2025, the vibrant city of Ljubljana, Slovenia, became the epicentre of discussions on the future of informatics education. Representatives from all partner institutions of the DIGITAL FIRST project gathered in person at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana, to collaborate on key aspects of the project aimed at transforming the way digital technology is taught in schools.

A Meeting of Minds and Innovations

Our Erasmus+ funded DIGITAL FIRST project seeks to redefine informatics education, equipping teachers and students with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age. During the two-day meeting, partners engaged in dynamic discussions on the latest research, best teaching practices, and the competencies required for informatics educators. The meeting agenda spanned several critical areas, including:

  • Finalizing research on informatics education across 10 EU countries, exploring what is taught, how it is taught, and how it can be improved.
  • Developing innovative teaching methodologies through dialogue clubs, ensuring informatics is taught as a functional and practical subject.
  • Defining teacher competencies and shaping the profile of the modern informatics educator through co-creation workshops.
  • Preparing the launch of pilot programs, bringing new teaching materials and assessment tools to classrooms across Europe.
  • Strengthening communication and outreach, with a focus on spreading project results through social media, conferences, and publications.

Collaboration in Action

With all partners present, the meeting provided a unique opportunity for in-depth discussions, hands-on workshops, and strategic planning. The sessions highlighted the importance of collaboration between universities, schools, education ministries, and technology experts in designing an informatics curriculum that meets 21st-century needs.
