On February 20, 2024, the Šiauliai City Municipality Education Center, in collaboration with the Methodological Council of Informatics and Information Technology Teachers, organized a virtual conference titled “Challenges and Opportunities in Informatics Education: Competency-Based Learning, Innovation, and Artificial Intelligence.” The event featured presentations by university researchers, formal and non-formal education teachers, representatives from the National Education Agency, industry experts, and international guests.
A team from Vilnius University—Valentina Dagienė, Aušra Kazlauskienė, Odeta Šapelytė, and Remigijus Bubnys—presented activities from the DIGITAL FIRST project, with a particular focus on the results of an informatics education study conducted across ten countries. Their presentation explored key topics in informatics education, the teaching methods employed, and the perspectives of students, parents, and industry partners on the relevance and effectiveness of the curriculum.
The conference attracted more than 200 educators and education policymakers, fostering discussions on the future of informatics education and integrating emerging technologies into teaching and learning.
